Fun, Fun, Fun

Just got back. We had so much fun and the weather was so great that we just had to stay another day at the sea. Unfortunately the internet cafe was broken ("due to technical difficulties", whatever that means) so I couldn't tell anybody. I'm currently downloading photos from my camera. Will post pics and longer report in 5-120 minutes...

Beach

I'm off to my favorite camp ground at the Baltic Sea to reward myself for working through last weekend and to enjoy the great weather one last time (it can get worse any time now).

We bought a kite yesterday and really cool sleeping bags last week so now we should be well equipped. There is an internet cafe on the camp ground so I might log on for a quick update if I'm bored by all the sand and water (Muwahahaha). Otherwise I'll be back Friday. See you then!

head hurt

Yesterday I had one of those really bad headaches (migraine probably) I get from time to time. I have always been prone to getting headaches. Even when I was young I would spend many afternoons lying on the couch with ice on my forehead not being able to bear any loud noises. I hated it. So anyway, I have more headaches than most people I know. And I have learned to discern the different types of headaches I get.

So when yesterday evening around 22:00 I felt one looming at the back of my head I knew that it was going to be a bad one but I didn't know yet that it was going to be a REALLY bad one. Around midnight it was already pretty bad. I stayed up until I couldn't take it any longer and went to bed around 1:00 (which is rather early for me). I took a cool pack with me which I put on my forehead. I already began to suspect that it might be a Really Bad One (TM) because sleep didn't come. Instead my head hurt even worse and my thoughts began to race around my brain (it's hard to explain this. It feels like I have a gazillion thoughts at once and can't concentrate on any single one. This only happens to me in case of a Really Bad One).

So after an hour of trying to fall asleep I got up again and took one of my badass painkillers which I only take in the event of a Bad One or Really Bad One. I also got myself another cool pack from the freezer. Now what makes this sort of headache even worse is that I also feel sick. Like I have to puke any minute. Anyhow, the pain killer didn't really help and it also kept me awake because it has caffeine in it. Around 4:00 I finally managed to persuade my brain that sleeping would indeed be a good idea.

Fortunately this doesn't happen very often. That would drive me crazy...

Eek!

A couple of minutes ago:
Edda is sitting on armchair reading thesis stuff. Suddenly sees movement right on the edge of her perception. Turns head. EEEEEEEK! Big (and I really mean big, like 7cm diameter) monster-spider crawling toward Michi's shoes. Edda screams like a baby (well okay, I didn't do that, but it was close). Michi gets up, spider freezes. Michi gropes for something to catch monster with (he doesn't like spiders any more than I do but still he rescues them every time. I would just squish them), finds something and wants to put it over spider. Spider with spider-sense realizes what's going on and begins to scramble away. EEEK! But my hero :) manages to catch it and throws it out. God, I HATE spiders!

Good thing I was reading thesis stuff on armchair. Had I been sitting at my computer the thing would have been able to sneak up on us from behind. *shudder* I wonder how long it'll take before I can get myself to walk around the flat barefooted again...

*burp*

Can't. Move. Ate too much. We ordered Chinese food from a restaurant that has very creative names for their dishes. Like "Sea-dragon with entourage" or "Cattle on pasture". Makes the food taste even better :)

Glowing Mozzies

Could somebody please manipulate the genes of mosquitoes such that they glow (the mozzies, not the genes)?

Be careful dammit!

I wanted to be very careful about not getting sunburned this summer because of the approx. 10 000 moles I have. And I was really good about it. Partly because we had more rain than sun this year. The only problem was that I didn't get a tan as quickly as I normally do. So today I decided to stay in the park a bit longer than I should have and promptly got a sunburn on my back. Fortunately it's only a minor one but I'm angry with myself for letting this happen!

Stress

I'm currently a little stressed out because of thesis writing stuff. There's a deadline approaching FAST (I think it managed to manipulate time somehow). So forgive me if I'm not very communicative during the next couple of days...

Damn Bugs

Yesterday night M and me spent an hour hunting a fat mosquito that had already fed on us the previous two nights. We didn't want to be his prey for another night and decided to switch roles and hunt him down. Unfortunately the little sucker kept escaping us. He must have bathed in "Edda's Room Camouflage Paint"(TM) or something. After an hour though we finally managed to squish him. His head now rests on a stake on the window ledge as a warning to his friends to show them what happens to little suckers like them if they insist on biting us...

Scorecard of Evil

A Scorecard of Evil would be a nice thing to keep for most politicians I'd say...

Check out this very cool spider game by Titoonic. It's very cute and a lot of fun! Those people are my new heroes. Be sure to check out their website as well. as there's lots of stuff to discover there. I especially love the monsters.

This is it

scorchedcable.jpg2009 Lost Memories is a great movie. It manages to keep the viewer interested for 133 minutes which in itself is quite an accomplishment. It's also about an alternate timeline where Korea is still a colony of Japan in 2009. It's got everything you want: two close friends who have to cope with slowly becoming enemies, very good action scenes that are only sometimes a little exaggerated, a love story with a bit too much pathos at times, a very interesting plot that keeps you in the dark about what's going on for 2/3 of the movie but that doesn't bother you at all as you accompany the main characters in their quest to find out. I really like asian movies. They are so refreshingly different. I could go on and on but I'll stop now before I give away too many spoilers. Just one more thing: it helps to know a bit about Korean-Japanese history.

Oh and by the way the little sucker to the left is the little sucker that made the fuse blow. Somebody very inexpertly attached our hearth to the power outlet. So this cable joining thingy (whatever the correct english term for it is) eventually caused a short circuit. What drives me mad is that this could have resulted in a nice fire. Look at how scorched that thing is. I really don't want all my things to burn to ashes. And me neither for that matter....

Triggermen was pretty good also but stole too many ideas from Snatch...

Nine Queens

Nueve Reinas was a great movie. It's a fun gangster movie with a twist. The fun thing about the twist is that you wait for it to happen almost from the beginning of the movie. But it never does. And just when you have given up it's suddenly there and catches you totally off-guard. Very nice. I can definitely recommend this one.

We also bought tickets for 2009 Lost Memories. A Korean film that sounds very promising.

Blown Fuse

My roommate Simon was about to make pancakes this morning when suddenly there's a *BANG*. Upon checking the fuse box he finds out that the hearth's fuse is blown and he can't get it activated again. Sparks fly whenever you try. We contacted our janitor who told us to contact our landlord who told us to contact our janitor and ask him for the phone number of the electrician who usually fixes stuff in our building. Unfortunately the janitor left after we asked him the first time and won't be back before 5. I hope it's not too late for the electrician to come have a look at our hearth by then. Otherwise the turkey filets I bought for dinner will go bad....

New Link and Stuff

Found a new link to the Moonbase Commander demo that doesn’t require you to get a gamespy account first before downloading.

I feel bad about not updating my site very often. It’s just that my life currently is very, very boring. I get up in the morning (well closer to noon) and try to get some work done. With various degrees of success. Usually I end up surfing the net for a much longer period of time than originally intended and then I feel bad for not working. sigh

The Fantasy Filmfest has started yesterday. It’s a film festival specializing on science fiction, mystery, horror and thriller type movies. It’s pretty cool because you get to see movies you normally don’t get to see in the typical blockbuster-only cinema. Or you get to see movies months before their official release. Last year I saw Memento two months before it opened here. Today I’m going to see Triggermen, a Canadian gangster movie that sounds a lot like Snatch. Tomorrow it’s going to be a movie from Argentina called Nueve Reinas, another gangster-type movie. There much more I would like to see, especially a couple of Korean and Japanese ones, but they want 8€ for every single movie so I have to choose wisely.

Moonbase Commander

Moonbase Commander is out now. Well in the US. I don't even know if it will be available in Europe at all. I played the demo last week and had lots of fun with it. At $19.99 nobody should miss out on this one. It promises a lot of multiplayer fun!

RainRainRain

It's raining and raining and raining. Could somebody please tell the weather god that it's supposed to be warm and sunny at this time of year goddammit!! Many parts of Germany are under water now. Currently it's Bavaria. Before that it was Hamburg. This sucks! Well it's supposed to get better by the end of the week...

Had lots of fun at the wedding. Got drunk but not that bad (only had wine this time and didn't mix with other alcohol). Michi's other sister let us sleep in her room which was very nice of her. Unfortunately her bed is very small and the mattress too soft. I woke up every couple of minutes fearing Michi would push me out of the bed ;) It felt very good to be able to sleep in my own bed again last night...

Wedding

Michi's sister is getting married this weekend. So I'll most probably be offline most of the time I'm here. I still cringe when I think back to the last wedding I attended. Free alcohol and Edda just don't go well together ;)

Shiny

I spent the last two hours cleaning up and then vaccuuming half the flat. Man, that was exhausting. I'm sweating. I should really try to start cleaning up before everything is a complete mess...

Castle, Camp, Kite

Ostsee0802.jpg

We only built one castle this time. The sand was very fine, so it was pretty hard to build castles that didn't collapse just by looking at them. The rightmost tower of this castle had actually been rebuilt four times before it stood long enough for us to take a picture. Well okay it would've been easier if the waves hadn't crashed against the walls all the time but we're no beginners. We can do advanced projects now. This particular castle was open to the sea on one side allowing the water to enter into the court yard.

The next picture shows our camp on the beach. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get a spot in the dunes (everybody wants those).

We didn't bring any kites. Which was a pity cause it was very windy (always is up there). So we had to watch other people do endless loopings.

This camping site was the best I've ever been on. It's beautiful with the dunes and everything. And it has everything you might need, from supermarket to miniature golf and even an internet café. Cool! The weather was great also (except for a little rain on the day of departure but that was bearable). The amount of moskito bites on my body has tripled. I seem to be some kind of moskito magnet. Michi already uses me as a protection against insect bites. Whenever I'm around everybody else gets bitten less.

Itch of Hell

I woke up this morning only to discover that I got bitten about 8 times by some moskito. He even bit me in my right index finger right on the joint so I can't even properly type without it itching like hell. Can't those monsters just steal my blood without leaving their itchy stuff behind? Gaaaaahhh!

Off for the Baltic Sea in a few. Wish me nice weather and you shall be rewarded with sandcastle photos :)

Bored?

If you’re bored check out this new free online game by Popcap called Insaniquarium. It’s about feeding fish and fighting aliens. All in one game. Lotsa fun.

If you want to get accomplished anything that day DON‘T try the highly addictive Bejeweled also by PopCap. I’m over it now but when I discovered it I couldn’t do anything else for a while. Other people seem to have felt the same way about this game :)

Wedding Con

This is pretty cool. Instead of giving a formal reception at their wedding couple organizes a gaming con to celebrate their wedding. And everybody is invited! Very, very cool.

Weather

One of my roommates just got back from shopping. He was in a district that's directly adjacent to ours. Apparently buckets of water fall from the sky there but it's still dry here. We only hear the occasional thunder. Even the online weather service say we're having a thunderstorm.

Hmm, maybe they errected a forcefield around our district in secret...

Didn't do it

So I didn't go running. Not today either. But if it's even too hot to just sit around how am I supposed to run? Although I'm very grateful for these summery temperatures. It's too cold too often here.

Today I spent two hours walking through what must be the world's biggest outdoor store (well maybe not but it's huge) in an attempt to buy all the gear we need for that camping trip to the Baltic Sea we got planned for this weekend (oh and did I mention that we're going to put up our tent IN THE DUNES? wheee!). We used to borrow our roommates' camping stuff but we finally wanted stuff of our own so we checked out this new store. It's really cool. They even have a pool you can test kayaks in. And a freezer that you can test sleeping bags in (at -20°C). And they got a huge selection of everything you might need for any outdoor activity. So that was cool. But afterwards my feet hurt. So no running for me. It was too hot for that anyway.

Just got back from sneak preview. This time we were really lucky and got to see a very entertaining film: About a boy. Actually I found it so good that I'll buy me a couple of Nick Hornby novels right now.
